On Saturday the 2s travelled to Raeburn Place to face Edinburgh Accies who were promoted to the league this year. They have had a very good start winning 2 from 2 and proved to be a stern test for Hamilton.
The match started well for Hamilton and they put pressure on the Accies try line, however poor discipline cost us and too many penalties were given away in the first 20 minutes. This led to Scott Whitelaw being yellow carded and with the Bulls down to 14 the gaps started opening and we conceded 17 points. Once Minty was back on the field we solidified up the defence and started attacking out wide. Good carries from Darren Carr and Josh White took us close to the Accies try line where we camped for a long time. Unfortunately good defence and a slippery ball prevented Hamilton scoring and the half ended 17-0.
The second half started as the first ended with Hamilton putting pressure on the Accies try line, good handling gave Cammy Morin and Ben Plant good attacking opportunities. Hamilton's scrum was solid all day and a good carry from number 8 Josh White gave good attacking ball to the backs and Craig Skilling went over for his first try of the season.
Hamilton let Accies back into the game and the scored a try of their own before more good pressure from Hamilton saw veteran back-row Seve Wright go over after good handling from Scott Whitelaw. Unfortunately the final score went to Accies and the game ended 27-10. Overall a good performance but our discipline must improve if we are to make an impact on the league. Next week sees us welcoming Watsonians to Laigh Bent, your support would be welcome.
