Stunning Stoppage-Time Score Seals Bulls Victory

There will be better, more focussed and analytical reports of Bulls’ games, but then these will not have been written by a correspondent who has enjoyed the delights of a Gold Bulls day!

Suffice to say, the boys were absolutely brilliant - for the last 30 minutes.

Having led through a typical sniping Hugo Crush try, but then fallen behind to two Biggar scores, things still looked ok, given that Hamilton would have the benefit of a strong wind after the break.

Unfortunately Biggar added ‘soft’ tries either side of the beak to leave the boys trailing 13-29 ten minutes into the second half. Owen McLeish had thumped over a penalty against the wind, and Gareth Jones had powered over after a series of picks and drives for the Bulls’ points.

Thereafter, for literally the last half-hour it was one way traffic - towards the Biggar line. Give credit to Biggar, they defended staunchly as an inspired Bulls side kept the ball and kept the ball and kept the ball………

In an attack of (literally) countless phases, Ross McQueen broke the dam as he squirrelled over from short range to cut the deficit to 18-29.

A second Gareth Jones try, again from short range notched the bonus point, and the roars from the Bulls’ supporters signalled that it was game-on as Andy Wilson converted for 25-29.

If that try was one for the Laigh Bent faithful to savour, then the final score was up there with the best touchdown seen for many a season. Well into stoppage time, Hamilton continued to pick and drive, and (again to their credit) Biggar continued to tackle. Through perhaps thirty (?) phases, Hamilton punched close in, then spread wide. When held, they punched and spread and punched and spread until on the far side Scoot (Scott Alexander) battered his way over at the corner to the delight of his team-mates and the home fans.

Apologies for any factual inaccuracies, but I hope you get a sense of the excitement and delight generated on the day!
