Bulls Cruise To Victory In First Round Of the BT Cup

Saturday saw the 1st XV travel to Woodside Sports Complex to take on Aberdeenshire in the first round of the BT Cup. The Bulls arrived late to Woodside due to the team bus departing late and hitting heavy traffic when entering into Aberdeen. This meant a short, sharp and intense warm up was needed to prepare the players for the game ahead. With the short warm up it was expected that Hamilton would need to build their way into this cup fixture. However, this was not the case as a couple of well-worked tries saw the Bulls take an early lead. The team were looking strong and looked comfortable in defence and attack. This was until a simple defensive error saw Aberdeenshire make a break through our midfield and score in the corner which they converted. The score did not affect Hamilton in the slightest as they piled the pressure back on to Aberdeenshire running in a few more good looking tries to take a 42-7 lead at half time. The first ten minutes of the second half saw the Bulls gift Aberdeenshire possession due to forcing plays and silly handling errors. Even though Aberdeenshire were gaining territory and momentum they never looked like breaking the Hamilton Defence. All Aberdeenshire's pressure was deflated instantly when the Hamilton turned them over and worked their way up the park to score. after the score the Bulls started to find their structure, putting phases together and scoring several more clinical tries before the final whistle. Full time saw Hamilton win 102-7 with the speed they played the game at clearly too much for Aberdeenshire to handle.

This week sees all senior sides back in action with the 1st XV away at Biggar, the 2nd XV away at Glasgow Hawks 2nd XV, the 3rd XV at home against Dalziel 2nd XV and the Bentleigh Bulls at home against Strathendrick 2nd XV. Let us hope all squads can continue winning ways like last weekend.
