On Sunday 20th November, Libby Hague, Cameron Wilson and David Hunter from the Young Coach Academy programme attended a Disability Inclusion Course at the Hamilton Palace Sports Ground.
The course was delivered by Scottish Disability Sport and was facilitated by South Lanarkshire Culture and Sport.
This course, marks the start of a partnership that will see Hamilton Rugby Club supporting Disability Inclusion Sessions at the Jock Stein Sports Centre and delivering sessions to ASL primary schools in the Hamilton area.
Libby Hauge, one of our young coaches commented: - “This course allowed me to understand how to appropriately adapt a session for someone with a disability so they can still be included and enjoy the session. It gave me a wide range of skills to put to use for the up and coming sessions”
Cameron Wilson, also one of our young coaches continued:- “It was a really enjoyable day where we learned fantastic ways to support anyone that wanted to play sport and it was great to be given the opportunity”
Our Young Coaches Academy aims to provide young people an opportunity to develop their coaching skills and build their experience. Our coaches are due to go on a UKCC Level 1 coaching and Level 1 refereeing course this season also.
Steven Meenagh, our Club Development Officer commented: - “This was a fantastic opportunity for our young coaches to continue their development. It is another example of how important partnerships are when developing sport for everyone. I am really excited to get the sessions started at the Jock Stain Centre and to see the club progress even further in its goal to be a fully inclusive community club."
