With much sadness we report the loss of one of Hamilton Rugby Club's greatest friends, Councillor Joe Lowe.
During his 40 year career representing the people of Hamilton, Joe had forged strong links with the Bulls. As an enthusiastic supporter of those who worked to improve the lives of others, Joe was always there to offer sound guidance and encouragement. His extensive knowledge and experience proved to be particularly valuable during the planning and building of the Clubhouse - helping us to navigate local bureaucracy and overcome many a potential obstacle.

Joe was always a great advocate for the work of Hamilton Rugby in providing meaningful opportunities for local young people of all backgrounds. Although rugby would not have been his first choice of sport, he recognised and valued the comradeship and opportunity that the game offers. Most of all he loved to see youngsters enjoying themselves.

Many have fond memories of Joe accompanying the U18s on their first ever exchange trip to Châtellerault in France. Far from being a casual observer, Joe got involved in the off-field activities alongside the players - even launching himself down a flume on a dare, despite being a non-swimmer!

Joe will be sadly missed by all who had the pleasure of knowing him. Our thoughts are with his family and friends.

Joe's funeral has been arranged for 10.30 am, Saturday 25 February in Our Lady & St Anne's Church and then Bent Cemetery.
