Hamilton Rugby club in conjunction with Active Schools engage with 1200 local primary school children from primary 5 and 6. The annual festivals run by development officer Alan Falconer have become a popular event with the community, The events are the finally to the club’s primary school activity. The events allow the children to practice their skills acquired through Lanarkshire’s largest primary school delivery programme. The events run over 3 days and see an average of 400 children per event take part in touch rugby games and contact rugby coaching.
Alan Falconer - Rugby Development Officer; “Hamilton Rugby Club is committed to improving our communities involvement in Rugby activity and help to promote a healthy and active lifestyle. our local community engagement programmes continue to be our main focus and we have established great links between local schools and Hamilton Rugby Club.”
Alan Falconer added; “We had around 1200 children at laigh bent over our 3 events, a mixture of boys and girls playing rugby, meeting new children and friends from other primary schools and learning the basics of contact rugby. The support from the local schools and active schools coordinators helps Hamilton Rugby Club to provided opportunities to the whole community. Thank you to all the primary schools (listed below) and teaching staff for their support over the 3 day and we look forward to supporting our community next season.”
