It is with an enormous sense of sadness that I write to report the sad loss earlier this week of Jo-Ann Browning at the young age of 45.
Jo Ann was a lifelong member who embodied the spirit of Hamilton Rugby as supporter, player, youth coach, first aider and general volunteer. Daughter of Jim and Ann Browning, Jo-Ann fell in love with our sport as a youngster and played prop during the founding years of our Women’s team.
Always willing to help others, Jo-Ann stepped in as coach to our primary 3 group when there were no others around who were willing to take on the responsibility. By selflessly giving up her Sundays, she made sure that our young bulls got a solid start to their rugby careers.
Jo-Ann was a regular spectator at home matches for the Women and Men’s teams and would always be amongst the first to put up her hand when the call went out for volunteers at events such as the annual youth festival, beer festival and fireworks displays. She also trained as a first aider for the club and gave of her time generously to support our youth section.
An active volunteer in our efforts to support the Food Bank, Jo-Ann’s contribution also extended beyond our gates and into the wider community. For such a quiet young woman she touched many lives.
Jo-Ann is a huge loss to us all and we send our condolences to Ann, Jim and family
The funeral is arranged for Friday 2 December at 10am in South Lanarkshire Crematorium.
