P1-3 Away V Kilmarnock

Kilmarnock Away - 03/11/19

A slightly depleted squad travelled to Kilmarnock on Sunday for 4 excellent games of rugby. Illness, injuries and poor weather conditions hit the numbers hard and we travelled with just 11 players which has been our lowest turnout in recent years. Despite the lack of numbers, we still managed to field 2 really good teams which were balanced with a mixture of experience and beginners.

The coaches were hopeful that the lower numbers would allow longer game time for those who made the journey and by the end of the day there were plenty of happy faces from the kids, parents and coaches. The boys and girls were excellent and the progress being made has been surprisingly quick.

The games were high scoring and some of the tries were excellent both through team play and individual skills. There were lots of sidesteps, forward running and great handling despite the damp conditions.

In the blue/green team, the following moments stood out to the coaches:
- Ruben scored a couple of excellent tries and had his best game by far
- Tyler followed in Ruben's lead, having 2 great games and can be really pleased with his performance. Becoming more confident every week and really takes on board what the coaches are teaching.
- Adam, after some early confusion over the strip selection, took to the park and put in another good performance. In only his second game, Adam continues to improve and will definitely be competing with his brother on the try scoring charts soon.
- Matthew combined his tackling skills with his direct running to play a big role in the game. A great example to the more inexperienced players.
- Giulio made some excellent breaks and was more than comfortable despite this being his first season. A great game both offensively and defensively.
- Dominic played his first match and can be pleased with his debut. Despite it being his first game, he is already doing really well and can be especially pleased with his tackling.
- Greig is quickly becoming a tackling machine. Having only had a few sessions and one previous game, the fearlessness and determination is incredible. Already proved himself to be the best rugby player in his family by far.

The focus is now on next week with West at home. Hopefully we will continue to see both the individuals and teams improve as the games keep coming.

We would also would like to thank those taking photographs which have been uploaded. There were too many to get them on all the website but it's great for the kids/parents to look through.
