Hamilton’s Ladies, also known as "the Heifers" hosted their inaugural match raising money for the Youth Section's adopted charity and new partnership with the Scottish Huntington’s Association. They kicked off under the lights of the main pitch on Friday the 30th September. The ladies had trained hard over the preceding 5-6 weeks and the game did not disappoint. Captained by Ali Anderson and Natalie Martin, the 20 strong team split in two and played a great first half of touch rugby with some outstanding runs from some of the ladies. Coach Gordon Lindsay had to remind one or two of the ladies during the first 5-10 minutes it was in fact touch rugby, with some crunching tackles coming in at times from both teams. The crowd on the night were amazing, playing a huge part in making it a great atmosphere and night for the Ladies. Halftime came and went and so did team changes with girls from the youth section joining the squads. They girls added some much needed experience and support to the senior ladies. Captain Natalie Martin, who should have been setting an example, was shown the yellow card for an infringement followed by Joan Dimond in the opposite team being sent to the bin for mouthing off at the ref. All the youth girls brought in the try’s in the second half, making the score level at the end of the game 6 each.
The Ladies celebrated their first outing afterwards in the Clubhouse with food, music and dancing. The atmosphere from outside continued inside where the ladies let their hair down with their friends and families, dancing the night away. Ticket sales, raffles and donations from everyone to came along raised over £1000 for Scottish Huntington’s Association.
The team will continue to meet on a Wednesday night from 6.15pm to 7.pm and are always looking for new players to join in with the giggles and laughs whilst exercising. There is the opportunity for any ladies who want to try contact to do so after the main training session.
