First road trip of the season took us to East Ayrshire and a match against Kilmarnock.
A combined team of P6 and P7 gave us a really strong pool of players, allowing everyone to get some valuable game time.
We played three fifteen minute games, all of which were all extremely close. End to end rugby in game one saw Kilmarnock come out on top by one try, thanks largely to their dominance at the breakdown. Game two, and the wee Bulls had identified that they needed to contest the ruck better. Some fantastic passing moves led to Hamilton winning by 5 tries. Game three was a fitting climax to the day's play. Both teams gave it their all in a really competitive encounter. A few bumps and bruises as both teams looked to strike the decisive blow. Ultimately a last play try saw Hamiltom come out on top.
Overall, it was a great fixture against a very fair opponent. We will take all the coaching points on board and look forward to our next match in a couple of weeks.
Thanks to everyone for travelling down and thanks to our hosts for their hospitality.
CAPTAINS COMMENTS
Our captain this weekend was James Schroeder, who when asked after the games had this to say. “I just want to say Sunday was a fantastic game and a team effort, everyone done great. All the training really paid off, mostly for the teamwork. I think we must work on the height of the tackles, but also thanks to the team for doing their best.” As well as being captain, James was having a fantastic rugby weekend due to his team, South Africa, lifting the World Cup. In a comment directed at no particular English coach, James went on to say, “maybe we might be as good as the springboks in the future.” ?
