Magic rugby at Marr

The Hamilton players were welcomed through to a warm and sunny Marr for their games this Sunday. We were met with a large squad from Marr who are always a strong opposition but good to test ourselves against. Our team was thankfully bolstered by five players from Kilmarnock who were made to feel welcome by Hamilton. Taking to the field for the first game the boys worked well and played like they had been together for a while. Marr started the scoring, but it wasn’t long before Hamilton hit back with some fast feet and got on the score sheet themselves. The second half started more positive and having found their feet started to take the game to Marr. The useful addition of subs enabled us to have rolling subs and keep the team a bit fresher. Soon the first 20 minute game was over and the team had really started to gel together. During the break, the team spoke amongst themselves and identified key areas they could improve upon in the next game. Taking to the field again, those on the bench where much more vocal in their support and helped direct play and defence. The communication on the pitch also started to come more naturally with commands for line shape and passing options being bellowed. Some great tackles were put in also during the games and attacking the space was evident, leading to some fantastic tries. It was always going to be a tough game as Marr are a great side as they have proven over the years, but our boys held their own against them and weren’t outshined. Legs started to go again in the last half of the game, which was always going to happen playing against a team of 22 rolling subs. Not that it stopped Hamilton and Kilmarnock from trying their best and playing hard until the final whistle.

A great day with many many positives to be taken away from it.
