Hamilton travelled to Dunfermline for their only pre season game and with a number of boys having missed a large part of pre season training they were well aware that it was going to be a tough physically demanding day. The hosts were short of props and the game was played with uncontested scrum which allowed both teams to move players into different positions.
As in last seasons games Hamilton were slow to start and found themselves 14-0 down before they got into the game, something they will need to fix if they wish to compete in league games. When Hamilton finally got involved they showed what they are capable of with some excellent passing and support play in attack and strong line defence.
Unfortunately Hamilton lost their shape in defence in the middle of the game, allowing the hosts to pass wide where they always had an overlap which they exploited and seemed to run away with the game.
The young Hamilton players showed great spirit coupled with skill as they fought their way back into the game scoring the last 3 try's, it was probably no coincidence that during this time they were once again pressing as a line and putting in some of the structures that they have worked on
They look forward to the start of the league campaign when they host Highland
