Improvement every week for the Under 18s
By Neil Mitchell
Seventy minute performance show massive improvement in defence.
In the Shogun Conference it is no surprise that there are a few teams that are bigger and stronger than the rest. When they have in excess of 50 players to pick from it is again no surprise that Stirling County U18s is one of those squads.
There is a bit of re-defining 'winning' that goes on and a major marker that we have been working on for the second half of the season is our defence. We had to keep the scoreline down, well below the ninety seven points that Stirling put past us last time and we had to work for the full seventy minutes in order to achieve that. We also wanted our progress to be obvious both to our support and our opposition.
So it was a pleasure to see that our defensive line held strong for long periods of the match. Notably with great communication and working hard round the corner in defence, we played with our 'heads up' better than we have done all season. In previous games we have flagged a bit in the second half, but such was the fight on this occasion, there was only twelve points leaked in the whole second half.
With every player giving their all and only a few mistakes preventing Hamilton getting on the score board themselves, it was no surprise when the Stirling coaching staff were unanimous in joining the Hamilton Coaches in expressing, the massive improvement in the teams performance in just eight weeks
The upbeat atmosphere in the club after, certainly suggests that the boys are recognising their progress and understanding that if we keep walking down the path, we will get to where we want to be.
Season objectives, Enjoy our rugby, become better players, want to keep playing the game.
Thanks once again to our loyal support, a sporting Stirling squad, Libby and Neil for photos and our parent helpers. Also I would like to thank Kelly Mitchell our referee for one of our best referee performances of the season.
