Hamilton v Ayr 02/12/18
By Graeme Richmond
Ayr punish young Bulls
Hamilton welcomed Ayr on a cold and damp day at Laigh Bent knowing that they would need to play to their best if they were to take anything from the game.
The young Bulls were in buoyant mood having had some good performances in the past month however, like in previous matches, they were slow to start and found themselves three try's down in the first 10 minutes.
The remainder of the first half was a more evenly contested affair where Hamilton had a few opportunities to put points on the board but a combination of poor decisions and handling errors resulted in the half finishing 17-0 to the visitors.
Hamilton were once again slow to start and within two minutes of the restart had conceded another try, Ayr were playing at a high tempo and were clearing their lines at every opportunity thereby putting Hamilton under pressure. Once the players realised how to defend the kick it became a more even contest and both teams attacked and defended in wave after wave.
The final 25 minutes of the match saw both teams score three tries a piece to end the match at 19-41 to the visitors. In a game that simmered along the referee was a busy person and did well to control the match.
Hamilton now look forward to the final league match when they visit Inverness, but know that they must improve if the are to end the season on a high.
