West of Scotland v Hamilton 4/11/18
By Graeme Richmond
Hot stuff in Milngavie
Hamilton U15s travelled away for the second week in a row to sunny Milngavie for a game on a 4G pitch at West. Cheered on by the aircraft overhead, the young Bulls dominated a game that they had lost in the reverse fixture at home earlier in the season.
Hamilton started brilliantly, passing purposely and quickly, racing into an early 4 try lead and looking like a team that could go toe-to-toe with any team in the league. Hamiltons scores typically came as a result of multiple phases, with plenty of support to press the advantage. The only minor blip were some signs of over-confidence, the early passing temporarily replaced by solo efforts. Their West opponents took full advantage and scored two converted tries. Impressively, this didn’t dent Hamiltons confidence, knowing they had the match of their opponents on this day. Our boys are always capable of bringing physical effort and backed this up with some finesse today. Another two scores before the end of the first half restoring their advantage.
Hamilton continued to play with purpose in the second half and pressed until the end of the game, scoring another 6 unanswered tries. A sign of the ease of the victory was that 5 different players scored tries in the second half. However, it would be inaccurate and unfair to say that West capitulated. It is to their credit that they continued to play hard and fair rugby until the end of the match.
So Hamilton go into next week's home game with Stirling with some confidence, looking to repeat their away victory earlier in the season. Here's hoping for another Bulls rampage, reminiscent of the streets of Pamplona. A mention should also go to the independent referee today whose consistency and fairness was appreciated.
Finally a thank you to the parents and injured players who attended as always to support their team ??
