Ayr 50 v Hamilton 14
The score line does not tell the whole story
On a windy day at Ayr Rugby Club the U15 team were determined the put the previous weekends performance well and truly behind them.
The game started with Ayr attacking the Hamilton line and good play by the opposition resulted in them scoring a converted try after only 2 minutes. The Bulls were buoyant though and good support play and getting the ball wide resulted in Lewis Mooney crossing the Ayr try line and scoring , this try was successfully converted by Lewis Robertson after 5 minutes.
Good defensive structure by the Bulls and playing heads up rugby kept out a Ayr team who were going through the phases in an attempt to exploit gaps in the Bulls defence, the game was played at a quick pace and an unfortunate passing error allowed Ayr to intercept and cross the line at the 15 minute mark. Unfortunately Ayr came straight back from the restart and immediately scored again.
The game continued to move up and down the park and was evenly contested only after 25 minutes did Ayr manage to exploit a gap in the Bulls defence and cross the line again.
The Bulls head didn't go down ….the Bulls put a few phases together and even at the turn over Ayr were starting to make handling errors due to the Bulls pressure. Ewan Brannan was in the right position and exposed the Ayr attack who were coming up fast and playing 15 metre passes, Ewan intercepted a loose Ayr pass to run the ball in from about 40 metres out. Lewis Robertson again got the two points from a successful conversion.
The second half tries scored by Ayr (5 in total) belies the performance the whole Bulls team put in, there was some great tackling by Adrian Kerr, Kyle Davidson had his best game in a Bulls jersey and Johnny Rowlands had an impressive 20 minutes at stand off. The team at the end realised that this was a much improved performance, the defensive line pressed and flooded the pitch, the rucks were well contested and on attacking the ball was put wide.
On this performance the next few games will be well contested by this Bulls team.
