Hamilton travelled to Troon on a wet and windy January afternoon where their arrival was welcomed by the changing rooms being locked, alarm sounding and no sign of the attendant, thankfully the side door was open allowing access to the rooms but the alarm was to remain throughout the day.
Thankfully Marr Playing fields have a 4G facility and this is where the game was to be played into a full head wind. Hamilton lost the toss and it was no surprise Ayr elected to play with the wind at their back which was as good as another player. The first half was one way traffic with Ayr running in 5 tries without reply from Hamilton, who were able to break out on numerous occasions but some poor handling let them down.
In the second half Hamilton scored direct from kick off and looked to push on but again the poor handling came back to haunt them and although the were the stronger side in the second half couldn't score enough tries to bring the game back to a level pegging.
