Club Captain

I am delighted to introduce you to John Selfridge who was made Hamilton Rugby Club Captain for season 2021/22 at our recent AGM. I caught up with John about his appointment.

"Having been part of the club for nearly 30 years, playing through mini’s, midi’s and on into seniors - being asked to be Club Captain is a massive personal honour. I am incredibly proud to have represented the club at all levels and look forward to this season more than any other.

I have played under some of the best Club Captain's Hamilton has ever seen and hope to channel a lot of their great leadership into my own. I would like to thank our previous Skipper, Owen McLeish for his time in the role. Being as good a 10 as he is, he is a natural leader and I'm looking forward to seeing him back in Green and Blue soon.

Coming back from 18 months of no rugby, the club is entering into a transitional period, and I am excited about using my own experiences to help lead the entire senior squad through this. With the support from my Captain’s group, a select few players, chosen for their strong leadership qualities.

I may be Club Captain; however, you may see another on match day from this group, which will help develop and grow the next crop of Hamilton leaders.

I feel a great deal of responsibility in instilling the Bulls culture into the younger guys that have come through and a huge focus of mine is to reconnect the seniors with other parts of the club and create a great atmosphere we can all enjoy. With some new appointments in the Committee in place I am confident we can achieve this.

I am excited to lead the team out to a capacity Laigh Bent crowd and display the exciting brand of rugby we have been working on in what is quite possibly the longest pre-season since records began. To see all the familiar faces (and new ones) in the crowd and in the club as we get ever closer, hopefully, to some normality.

Corremos Con Los Toros"

Good Luck to John from everyone in the #BullsFamily
