The Jannaway's finish on a high!

The clubhouse was packed to the rafters on Saturday for the last Charity fundraiser of John and Issie Jannaway. Our resident DJ and his wife have spent the last 3 decades raising money for Charity.

In what was an emotional night along with it being John's 1200 function the couple went out with a bang smashing the £160k mark which has been donated over the years to CHAS, Action for Children, Cash for Kids and MacMillian Cancer Support.

"The past 33 years has been an incredible journey that Issie and I could not have anticipated. The success we have had is totally due to the continued support of our many sponsors and to the guys for coming back year after year. Throughout this time, many of us have lost a loved one and they will always be remembered by their family and by ourselves for their support. Thank you everyone!"

Charity Timeline

Hilltop Bar, Hamilton - 1986 & 1987
It all began just by listening to Radio Clyde and their Cash for Kids Appeal. Never thought for a minute that it would progress the way it did. How excited were we when 17 teams came to that first night and raised £660. Little did we know what the future would bring.

Cartland Bridge Hotel - 1988 to 1991
The interest was growing so it was ideal when Kate & Lex took over the hotel. Despite one very white Christmas, our stay lasted 4 years. A couple of highlights were a visit by Alastair MacDonald and me locking Issie out of the room. A complete accident of course. By the time we moved again, we were attracting around 40 teams. In the four years at the Cartland Bridge, we managed to increase what we raised every year. In our final year we raised over £6100. The decision to move to EK was a risk but one which proved fruitful.

Ballerup Hall, East Kilbride - 1992 to 2015
In our first year in EK, we had a massive 60 teams. This figure would vary between 55-58 for a long time. The obvious highlight during this period has to be 1999, the year we raised an all-time high of more than £10,000. The effort put in by so many during our time in EK was second to none and made the event possible every year. Unfortunately our teams were gradually going down to the mid 30's so our success in EK was coming to an end.

Hamilton Rugby Club - 2016 to 2018
It was always a risk moving back to Hamilton but, thankfully, it worked out fine and the workload was dramatically reduced. We realised that it might not suit everyone but we hope everyone realised the reasons behind it. On reflection, it seems appropriate that we finish off just down the road from where it all began!
