Raising awareness of a condition close to our hearts.

Hamilton Rugby club continues to support the local community with its vast rugby development programme. The club known as “The Bulls”, now one the most popular sporting teams in the country, is looking to use their following to raise awareness of a condition close to their hearts.

The Bulls are in partnership with Scottish Huntington’s Association to make steps towards improving the awareness of Huntington’s Disease with the inclusion of the association’s logos on two of The Bulls shirts.

Hamilton Rugby Club’s Vice President, Ross Whiteside, “We are delighted to announce our partnership with Scottish Huntington’s Association; we are dedicated as a club to raising the awareness of Huntington’s disease. Our club is a safe, family friendly environment, fully inclusive and welcoming to all.”

The Bulls have had a long association with the disease after a club member was diagnosed, and have organised a number of events to support the families living with Huntington’s and to support the Charity. The latest fundraising event will take place at the club’s home ground of Laigh Bent on the 30th of September with all proceeds going to Scottish Huntington’s Association. Tickets, £5 per adult and U18s free, are now available on the club’s website. The evening is especially important to Hamilton Rugby Club’s “Heifers” who take to the field in their first ever match. The new female team was started by a group of enthusiastic mums and has grown in popularity over a very short period.

Linda Winters from Scottish Huntington’s Association (SHA), said, ‘Hamilton Rugby Club have provided us with a massive opportunity to increase awareness of Huntington’s disease in Lanarkshire and nationally. The Bulls provide a safe and friendly environment for the local community and also have an understanding of how Huntington’s disease impacts on families. With the club’s knowledge and history they are a key part of the community’s support network and we hope by raising awareness in partnership with Hamilton Rugby Club’s we can encourage local families to attend the club’s events.’ You can find out more on the work of SHA by visiting our website www.hdscotland.org

Hamilton Heifers Inaugural Match for Scottish Huntington's Association 7.30pm Kick Off

After agreeing that the boys have had all the fun for too long, a group of ladies got together on Wednesday evenings to play Touch Rugby. And so the Hamilton Heifers were born!

These hilarious weeknights have culminated in a team ready to show case their skills and where better than on the main pitch for all the new and returning members of the Youth Section to cheer on. The loosing team will have to pay a forfeit to be decided by the referee on the night.

After the match (and a shower) the ladies will be jigging their wee hearts out helped John's DJ skills whilst ordering a few refreshments from the bar.

The evening will give everyone a chance to get to know other parents in their team, people from different teams and maybe even catching a glimpse of a Senior player or two.

Tickets are £5 per adult (U18s free) and are available from the Team Captains, Natalie Martin (P5) or Ali Anderson (P4) or HERE

All monies raised will be donated to the Youth Charity of the Season - Scottish Huntington's Association.
