Head coach David Gemmell shares his match day thoughts

Coaches & players are looking for a much improved performance today when we visit Dundee HSFP in Tennents National 1.

Disappointment was the prevailing emotion after last weekend’s 27-28 defeat at home to Cartha, the general feeling that our lethargy and sloppiness with possession in the opening quarter of a hour gave Cartha a 14 point start which proved too much to haul back...

Please ignore their early season league position, Dundee is always a tough away trip - we cannot ever afford to underestimate our opponents instead preparing both physically and mentally for every match as a similar battle.

There are a few changes to this week’s Bulls squad:

We go with a front row of Taz McLaughlin, Grant McCowan and Greg Richardson, with Kevin McCann and Ross McQueen taking places on the side lines. With Gareth Jones struggling with a back strain, Jack Bruce makes his Bulls debut beside Josh White in the second row after joining the club in the summer from Edinburgh Accies. Gregor Brodie starts at 6, Charlie Craig at 7 and Rab Brown celebrates his 100th Bulls appearance this weekend with an appearance at number 8. Scott white is the 3rd forward replacement.

Hugo Crush and Owen McLeish combine again at halfback with Mark Wallace and Ross Jamieson in the centre and Ben Plant and Neil Kennedy on the wings. Andy Wilson returns at fullback after 3 weeks in the twos following his preseason injury, with Ethan Aitken and Stevie Turnbull covering all options from the bench.

With plenty of attacking potential we’ll look to control possession, keep a high pace in the game and stay patient, disciplined and organised when defending. Let’s hope we get what we aim for!

The Toos are away to Melrose, perennial title chasers. A massive challenge for our young squad but one we are undoubtedly relishing.

On top of our injury list (get well soon lads), other non rugby commitments through the September weekend mean we have had to default our scheduled 1927’s game at home against Dumfries - a truly gutting state of affairs.

They’ll be back next week!

In other action our ladies entertain Wigtownshire at Laigh bent tomorrow & U18s are away to Boroughmuir.

Best of luck to all Bulls teams!

That’s all for now folks, enjoy your rugby this weekend, I hope cheering on one of our Hamilton teams.

Say hello if you see me...
