Coaching change at Hamilton will ensure we continue to grow as a club

With the final fifteen aside game of the season over, our destination next season is now fixed as National 2. Can I commend the team yesterday for a fantastic fight back when the game looked to beyond hope. The large Hamilton support at least had something to hold on to right up to the final blow in the last play of the game, having watched some great tries from Hamilton.

After the game, Head Coach David Gemmell announced to the players that he was standing down as head coach at the end of the season and that the coaching team would not continue as formed. He said that ‘after 6 years in role, the time now appears right for a change - the good of the club always the most important consideration’.
David went on to say ‘I continue to wish continuing success for all Hamilton Rugby ventures & aspirations’

It has been 6 seasons since David and Pepsi were asked to take on the roll and went on to form the current team of coaches. In that time we have had two promotions into National 1 where we have competed but struggled to get a foot hold that would keep us there more than the season.

The legacy of this coaching team has been to show what can be achieved with an amateur team of players and coaches. When playing against a number of teams that provide remuneration to their players in order to attract their quality, Hamilton worked on retention and developing our own youth. We supplemented that with players attracted to the Club, by its reputation and by the style and ambition with which we play.

Can I take this opportunity, on behalf of the Club, to thank David and his team for all their efforts and endless hours over the period of their tenure. All your hard work has been appreciated.

Where now?
The committee has known a for a short time about the impending departure of the Coaching team and have wasted no time in securing the commitment of an exciting new Head Coach and Assistant Coach. We will be making this announcement shortly. Suffice to say we have taken every effort to ensure that we build on the hard work and reputation that has been put in place over the last six seasons. The Bulls family will continue to grow!
