As many will have seen on social media or heard through the grapevine, I stepped down as Club Captain after our game away to Selkirk last Saturday.

The club paparazzi have asked me for a few words for the website so here goes...

This was a decision I did not take lightly and by no means is a knee jerk reaction to our relegation from National One. I have thoroughly enjoyed the past two years in the role and cannot thank the coaches enough for giving me the opportunity to fulfill a childhood dream! Unfortunately, due to work commitments, I won't be able to give the role the time and justice that I think it requires to make a success of it. Rest assured that our next captain will get my full support and backing.

Whilst this year has been difficult I have never stopped enjoying being the club captain, it’s been challenging but I have loved it. I have particularly enjoyed the interaction with people throughout the full club, not just the 1st XV and, in particular, it has been really pleasing to see so many talented players turning out for our senior sides this season.

The highlight of my two-year stint was undoubtedly winning the league last year with a few games to spare. That is only the second time in the clubs history that we have won that league, so it was pretty special to lift the trophy with all of the boys at Hughenden in front of our loyal supporters.

Next season will bring new challenges but I’m confident, with the current coaching set up and the squad of players we have, that we will be able to bounce straight back up playing a good brand of rugby. There is a lot of hard work required in the off season but the good thing is that all the players understand the level of conditioning that we need to achieve.

Thanks once again for all of your support and please make sure you get behind our new captain as much as you did me, it makes the job a lot easier knowing you have the club behind you every step of the way!

Yours in Rugby,

Jingles
