A look at how one of our former players is getting on since leaving the Bulls and setting up home overseas.

In each article, we ask the player to let us know their memories of Hamilton Rugby Club and what they are currently doing on and off the pitch...

This time we hear from Grant McCowan who left the club in 2015.

What are your highlights and memories of Hamilton Rugby Club?
I was 10 years old in the year 2000 when I first came to play at Hamilton, I was quiet, a little shy I suppose. I didn't really know any of the boys. My parents reckon they could always pick me out on the pitch because I was the one biting my fingernails. I'm sure anyone reading this that knows me will agree I haven't changed much! I came to play my 'last' game in 2015 after 15 years with the club. It had to be the 2015/16 season where we finally won the division 2 championship... and I wasn't there for the title party, just my luck! Fair to say after this length of time the boys that I once barely knew were now some of my closest friends, and I had gone from 'Grant' to 'Fatheed'.

My senior highlight is probably from an underdogs away game followed by a messy booze filled bus trip, but I don't remember enough about them to comment!

One highlight I do remember is beating rivals Dalziel to win promotion during the 2011/12 season. Anyone that has played in those games knows how good it feels to beat them, and to do it to win promotion was even better. We made our way back to the clubhouse with the champagne being poured and just managed to catch ex-captain Dodsy score the winner at the Melrose 7's!

That night was followed by the infamous Rocky horror party, it was a great night and I beat stiff competition to win 'sexiest legs', even after being sabotaged by Richard Maxton who broke my leg in a two footed slide tackle whilst he was assisting as linesman!

I've plenty more amazing on and off the field memories with the Bulls boys, my first trip overseas with the Bulls to Chatlerault, 6 nations trips to Cardiff and Rome, and various holidays during the off-season to Ayia Napa. I'm certain anything I write here relating to those trips will be edited out ... but those involved will never forget!

My rugby careers been full of ups and down, playing 1XV rugby from 18 years old was great and I even enjoyed involvement in a few 7's seasons. A couple of injuries got in the way of my last seasons at Hamilton but I enjoyed playing none the less.

What's going on at the moment on and off the field?
I'm now living in Sydney and playing for Randwick Rugby Club after pretty much a years break, I'm enjoying being back and playing in some sunshine for a change
I look forward to coming back to Hamilton at some point soon hopefully, not sure if I'll be playing again but to pull the bulls jersey on again is a nice thought, as well as claiming a few towels back from Craig Inglis!
Missing everyone at the club loads and hope you're all well, love Grant. (Fatheed).

Thanks for the update Grant and remember that you always have a home at the Bulls.
