Kate from our Ladies team thought she just spending the afternoon cheering on Wales in the Six Nations

Kate went to the rugby on Saturday expecting an afternoon of cheering on her country Wales in the Six Nations.

She never thought she would find herself being proposed to amongst the sell-out crowd.

But as soon as the Welsh National Anthem finished, the 23-year-old teacher was shocked to find her partner Kyle down on one knee.

The magical moment was even captured on television and was shown on BBC Scrum V.

The couple have been together for five years and are both huge rugby fans.

Kate said: “Whenever Wales are playing Scotland in the Six Nations, we always get tickets. Kyle is Scottish and I am Welsh so this game always means a lot to us and we also both play rugby.

“We met each other on holiday in Magaluf and afterwards we kept in touch, at first it was only friendship but then we decided to make a go of things.

“For four years I was in university and doing a PGCE living in Cardiff , against all odds we made our long distance relationship work. We knew there was something special there.

“After the National Anthem, I turned round and all I could see was Kyle on one knee, I couldn’t stop screaming.

“There were 8 of us there and everyone knew, I didn’t have a clue. I’m still in utter shock. People around us were buying us drinks to say congratulations.

“The ring needs to resized though as it’s too small, classic Kyle.”

The 23-year-old said she didn’t remember Wales’ 34-7 win over Scotland.

“I don’t remember the game, it’s all so surreal. We had really good seats and just by luck the cameras managed to pick the engagement up. I’m so glad that our friends were also there to record it.

As well as the game, Wales also won when it came to deciding on where the wedding should take place.

“We won’t be getting married for a while yet but even though I now live in Scotland we will definitely be getting married in Wales. Kyle hasn’t got a choice.”

Kyle, who is an alarm engineer, has been planning the proposal since the New Year.

He said: “I’ve always known that I wanted to propose to Kate after the National Anthem, but it was only in the New Year that I knew I was definitely going to do it during this Six Nations, the time just felt right.

“I was absolutely terrified, I have no idea how Kate didn’t find out as she usually finds out everything.

“I didn’t know the score until the end, it was probably a good thing that I don’t remember the game.

“We will get married in a few years but we want to go travelling first.”

Congratulations to Kate and Kyle from everyone at Hamilton Rugby Club
