Hamilton U15 (38) v Dalziel/East Kibride (33)
By Tom Mooney
Hard fought win in the Winter Sun
The team were buoyant from their last two cup games and a good week of training.
The game started with the Bulls having to soak up some early pressure from the visitors. Good defence and line speed made the visitors make some ball handling errors allowing the ball to be turned over. The Bulls attacked at pace with good handling down the line and getting the ball out wide allowed Calum Ferrie to cross the line for the first try of the day.
The restart gain saw the Bulls apply pressure and the game was predominantly in the visitors half as they battled to cross the Hamilton gain line. A scrum started off the second score of the day with the ball again being distributed at pace splitting the Dalziel/EK defensive line and allowing Calum Ferrie to run in his second try of the day.
The Bulls started to make things difficult for themselves at the breakdown allowing easy turnover ball which had to be defended causing a coupe of the Bulls to have to be substituted.
The Bulls defence held strong and from a set piece the Bulls amounted another attack, locating space in the visitors defence allowing Calum Ferrie to cross the line for his third try of the day.
With 25 minutes gone the Bulls appeared to switch off and Dalziel/EK came straight back from the restart putting a few phases pf play together to score their first try of the day.
From the kick off the Bulls found themselves under pressure failing to challenge for the loose ball in the breakdown and missed tackles allowed the visitors to score two tries within 10 minutes.
An on field team discussion seemed to work and the team recaptured some of the flair the first had had shown with good forwards pressure allowed Cameron Mcintosh to score.
Further Bulls pressure resulted in both Jamie Thorpe and Calum Ferrie both scoring for the Bulls.
The last ten minutes were not for the faint hearted the Bulls appeared to believe the game was won and the visitors scored two tries to make it a difficult last few minutes
The final whistle couldn't come soon enough and the team goes to the semi final where Ayr awaits.
Some positives and negatives to be taken from todays win and the post match talk showed that the team i knew that this type of performance just makes it harder for them, keep it simple and do the basics.
Onwards and upwards.
